Veteran Speechwriter and Communications Strategist Eric Schnure Joins West Wing Writers
Washington, DC, October 19, 2026 – Today, West Wing Writers announced that former White House speechwriter and executive communication strategist Eric Schnure has joined the firm as a Managing Director.
Eric comes to West Wing Writers after leading his own consultancy for more than two decades. He is also co-author of The Political Speechwriter’s Companion: A Guide for Writers and Speakers, 2nd Edition (SAGE, 2020)—which, true to its name, can be found on countless top communicators’ bookshelves in the nation’s capital and beyond.
Prior to opening his own firm, Eric served as Director of Executive Communications at GE. In that role, he advised and wrote speeches for the CEO and other leaders, as well as helped execute strategies to protect and enhance the global company’s reputation and brand.
“In an era of increasing artificiality, leaders need to speak with purpose, clarity, and humanity if they want to earn people’s trust,” said West Wing Writers CEO Vinca LaFleur. “Eric understands that. Whether collaborating with CEOs, public figures, or nonprofit leaders, Eric’s deep knowledge, humor, and heart have long set him apart in our field. We’re so grateful to welcome this longtime friend and first-rate thinker and writer to our team.”
With decades of speechwriting and communications experience—including as an adjunct professor of public communication at American University—Eric has designed and run training sessions for global companies including Google, Corning, IBM, Marriott, UPS, Mars, HP and Airbus, as well as international institutions such as INTERPOL, the Rockefeller Foundation, the World Bank, and the European Commission. He looks forward to expanding the firm’s growing speaker coaching and professional development workshop offerings in the United States and internationally.
He will also help lead West Wing Writers’ humor practice. Eric co-founded the Humor Cabinet and was once described by Roll Call as one of Washington’s “most sought-after political humor writers.” He is a Friend of the Gridiron, the venerable journalists’ organization famous for its annual dinner and political satire, and has helped prepare clients for appearances from late-night television to The White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
Eric began his career as a speechwriter for Vice President Al Gore. In addition to the White House, Eric also served in senior communications roles at the United States Department of Housing and at NASA. After leaving government, Eric was a principal at the public affairs firm Dewey Square Group.
“I’ve admired West Wing Writers for a long time because of the extraordinary work they do, and even more for the people who do it,” said Schnure. “They’re creative, strategic, and kind. And they understand that communication is deeply human. I believe that too, and it’s shaped everything I do, from advising and writing for CEOs to scripting major events to helping communicators sharpen their craft. I’m thrilled to bring that experience to this team and our clients.”
