When The West Wing premiered 25 years ago this weekend, it brought the world a revolutionary style of dialogue known as the “walk and talk”, with aides marching up and down White House corridors trading high-speed quips with each other and, occasionally, their boss.

A quarter of a century on, the real president walks and talks rather more slowly, but that’s not all that makes rewatching Aaron Sorkin’s drama feel odd.
