What is your favorite memory from your time at West Wing Writers?
Wow, what a difficult choice! I reflect most fondly on Friday lunch conversations, one-on-one workshops with tenured West Wingers (looking at you, Chris Fox!) and the holiday party. (I know that’s three encompassing memories, but that’s as narrow a selection as I could make; my entire time at WWW was pure joy.)

What is one piece of advice you would give to future West Wing Writers interns?
Again, so many thoughts. In keeping with my previous response, I'll give you my top three-ish: 1) Take as many assignments as you can responsibly manage from as many different West Wingers as possible and commit fully to each assignment; 2) make an effort to get to know as many West Wingers as you can during and after work hours; and 3) thank your mentors early and often, and stay in touch with them!

Chicago.

What did you do immediately after your time at West Wing Writers?
I went back to Northwestern to complete my senior year and started a new job as a writing consultant at my university’s writing center.

What are you doing now?
Currently, I am a coach for the University of Illinois at Chicago Speech Team, a writing consultant at the Obama Foundation, and a fellow at Bully Pulpit Interactive.

What is your favorite memory from your time at West Wing Writers?
My favorite memory was seeing a speech I helped with live! I worked closely with Jeff Shesol on multiple drafts of the speech and I literally cried when they said lines that I’d written. It was the first time that I’d seen a speech I helped to write come to life in front of my eyes.

What is one piece of advice you would give to future West Wing Writers interns?
Never be afraid to ask for help from your fellow WWWs! I constantly felt like I was supported and had someone to turn to on any assignment no matter the size. Everyone is always willing to help and push you to be the best writer you possibly can during your time there!
